Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship: Mosport Preview

Championship back to challenge Mosport this weekend

The feature race of the CRDA Presidents’ Trophy weekend is the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship Presented By Toyo Tires. The Championship’s seventh race weekend of the year will challenge Mosport International Raceway’s high speed corners. The Championship will visit Mosport as part of eight different weekends in Quebec and Ontario.

The Championship is comprised of two Classes of racecars; Touring Class in the entry level Class where only minimal modifications are allowed while Super Touring Class has the powerful heavily modified racecars with engines up to 2.8 litres. Drivers can start out in Touring Class and develop their racecraft and then move up to Super Touring Class when they are ready for more power and speed. Both Classes compete at the same time on the track and challenge for supremacy in their Class which creates an amazing show. Touring Class racecars are easy to recognize because they have blue windshield banners and headlights while Super Touring Class has yellow windshield banners and headlights.

After six weekends of racing, Nigel Krikorian of Markham, Ontario (Krikorian Motorsports) leads in Super Touring Class driving his Subaru by only 118 points over Etienne Borgeat of Montreal, Quebec (GT Racing) in his BMW followed by Arek Wojciechowski of Ottawa, Ontario (8Legs Racing) in his BMW a further 100 points back. Each of the top three drivers has teammates in identical racecars. They will be challenged by more two-car teams including VMC (Honda) and Fastco Racing (Hyundai).

Andre Rapone of Thornhill, Ontario (Durabond Racing) leads in Touring Class driving his Acura by 105 points over his brother Anthony Rapone of Thornhill, Ontario (Durabond Racing) followed by Christian Raymond of St-Jerome, Quebec (TwoFast Racing) driving his Mazda only 25 points further back. The racing in Touring Class has been extremely close this year with only a few seconds separating the top drivers in qualifying and races.

The Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship Presented by Toyo Tires is sponsored by CSC Racing, Toronto TireCraft, Sigma Promotions and Mad Macs Communications + Graphics. The Championship is supported by Racing Radios, President Champagne, Leaf Racewear, RaceDV and Impact Custom Canopy.

The Championship features Canada’s Best Drivers Racing Today’s Hottest Touring Cars.

Mazda rescues TwoFast Racing!

Montréal, August 28th, 2008 – The Québec Mazda Dealers Association increases its financial support to allow TwoFast Racing to compete in the last events of the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship, to be held in August and September 2008.

TwoFast Racing had many mechanical problems and accidents on the track during the 2008 season, which had important financial consequences, due to both parts and labour. Since the Mazda # 04 driven by the pilot Christian Raymond was seriously damaged at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, majors repairs are required and cannot be completed for the next Championship event scheduled for this week-end in Mosport, Ontario. Hence, the pilot Éric Leblanc has offered to lend his Mazda # 40 to his partner Christian Raymond, currently third in the Championship. “I just hope he won’t bring it back with a crooked frame”, says Leblanc, hardly joking. Raymond’s desire is to complete the season in the first place and driving his own racing car, on the September 13-14 final event.

In addition to these changes, TwoFast Racing is pleased to announce that the Québec Mazda Dealers Association will be supporting the expenses for the last races of the 2008 season. “We are extremely grateful towards the Association: they supported us financially from the very beginning of this season and now they increase their help so that we can complete the Championship. It’s a pat on the back that encourages us a lot. I will be able to finish this season at full throttle!”, said Raymond.

The TwoFast Racing Team wants to thank the Québec Mazda Dealers Association for their support and trust. We are very proud to be driving Mazda vehicles. Zoom-zoom, goes the saying…

GE CANADA TO JOIN OCTANE MOTORSPORT TEAM FOR MOSPORT; LAUZIÈRE AND KENZIE TO SHARE DRIVING DUTY ON THE MINI COOPER S
Montréal, Québec – The Octane Motorsport racing team announced today that GE Canada will provide sponsorship to the race team for the August 30-31 Mosport event as part of the Castrol Canadian Touring Car series, while promoting their automotive headlamps Nighthawk line. GE, a worldwide leader in lighting technology, will join the Octane team, who throughout the last couple of years, has shown that just like the GE Nighthawk line, they are the leader in their field.
Renowned Automotive journalist Jim Kenzie will join Lauzière to share driving duties of the Original MINI Accessories MINI Cooper S. “It’s been over three years that we have been attempting to find the proper event to make this happen” mentions Kenzie, who won the Targa Newfoundland Rally Open Division driving a MINI Cooper S JCW twice in the past three years. “We have now found the perfect event”.
After a difficult weekend in Trois-Rivières, the Octane Motorsport team will be looking to rebound during the Mosport event. “We had what appeared to be electronic sensor issues during the two races at Trois-Rivières. We have since isolated the issue to a leaky intercooler boot and the concerns should now be fully corrected” acknowledged Lauzière. “It’s a shame as we were on our way to a podium finish; we would like to thank the great ADEX people for their involvement with the team at Trois-Rivières.” With an 8th position finish, the team will be able to remove 40 lbs. from the MINI for Mosport.
