A1 Team Canada scored its first podium and points of the season last month at the Malaysian track as Robert Wickens belied his rookie status to finish third in the Sprint race. Having reached the podium on his A1GP race debut, the 18-year-old from Toronto experienced a more frustrating Feature event, Wickens retiring early from the proceedings after a frantic start.
Despite missing out on another likely points scoring opportunity, the 2006 Formula BMW USA Champion won the plaudits of many for a fantastic debut, notably by the fans as he was crowned 'Driver of the Day' courtesy of an online poll held on A1GP.com. Wickens claimed 46% of the votes cast, beating out Switzerland's Neel Jani who triumphed in both the Sprint and Feature events to give his team the lead in the A1GP Nations Standings.
