UPDATE:
Jason Coutu and Rick Beales Win Big at The New Humberstone's Mothers DayMadness Event
For the first time in 3 years, The New Humberstone Speedway hosted a Mother's Day Madness event, giving the fans, crew and drivers the night off to honour their mothers.
Racing activities started at 2 pm. This event being a prelude to The New Humberstone Speedway's biggest non racing event during the season, The Eve of Destruction. The enduro was won by Jason Coutu, who started up front in the 100 lap event, and managed to remain there through out the race.
The flag pole race, an event where the competitors have to do a full lap around the track, then do a full circle around a flag pole in the middle of the front stretch. Beales took over the lead from Steve "Smoky" Robison on the second the last lap. Robison had an advantage because of having a smaller car he could manoeuvre around the flag pole in a tighter circle.
But Rick Beales had the power to make up the distance while going around the track. But having some contact while going around the flag pole Robison's rear wheels seized up, allowing Beales to take the win.
In the last event of the afternoon, we played a game called Red Rover.... but played it Humberstone Speedway style, with race cars. Rick Beales captured the first place victory in this event. This race has two finish lines; one at each end of the straight away.
The object of this race was, to have all race cars start in a line, when the air horn blew the cars had to race to the 1st finish line and the last car is knocked out, then make a quick turn and race down to the other finish line, last car is knocked out.and so on.
Coming Up Next Week: Barry Toth Trucking and Commercial Auto Electric presents NHS Weekly Series + 360 Sprints and NYDCA Open Wheel cars. Grandstand gates open at 5 pm, Pit Gates Open at 4:30, and racing begins promptly at 6:30. Please call the speedway office at 834-4002 for more info.
