NCATS: Simone Autosport Barrie Report

BARRIE, ON - The Simone Autosport team competed locally at Barrie speedway, over this past weekend, in the A&W 300. This particular oval is very tight track and runs 1/3 of a mile with each of it's 300 laps. It is legendary for ruining cars and ending the day for their drivers. As was the case for driver Anthony Simone of Holland Landing, Ontario.

Simone had a good start to the day, and was excited to qualify 9th overall. During the first 50 laps there were many early cautions called, allowing Simone to pick up a few track positions on the restarts. He quickly moved up to 6th place, and was battling for 5th, when another caution was called due to engine failure of the #60 car driven by Ron Beauchamp Jr.

Simone tried to slow for the caution but was unavoidably involved in a three car pile up. The number 1 car, driven by Peter Gibbons, collided with Simone causing a broken radiator and destroying the entire front end of the Crown Modular sponsored #95 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. This brought the day to a close for the entire disappointed Simone Autosport team.

"We've had a run of bad luck," said a representative from the team, "But we're just going to keep on doing what we're doing and push through. Just keep our eye on the prize!"

For all you local race fans, Simone will return to compete in Barrie again on September 6, 2008 in the Pizza Pizza 300, but for now the team looks ahead to the next race taking place in St. Eustache, Quebec.
