BRIGHTON SPEEDWAY: June 21 Report

BRIGHTON, ON - Brighton Speedway drivers are gearing up for double laps and double points, as the Brighton Automotive FAB FOUR Mid-Season Championships hit the track on Saturday, June 28th.  Starting with Time Trials for Starting Position, the fastest lap in each class will sit on the Pole for the quest for the coveted trip to Victory Lane.
The night promises to be full of excitement as the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified leader is only ahead by 80 points.

Andrew Hennessey, #87 of Picton, is yet to win a feature, but holds on to the lead over the 2007 champion Doug O’Blenis, #32 of Shannonville and previous champion #11 Dan Ferguson, also of Picton.  The 50 lap feature is sure to separate the contenders from the rest of the pack following the carnage on the track during the Dibbit’s excavating presentation on June 21st.  18 cars started that race, and 40 laps later 7 crossed the line at the checker.   Avoiding the mess, and taking the win, was #20 Terry Hunt, of Carrying Place, who had also been successful in his qualifier.  The double win earned him the Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the Week, and brought him closer to contention, as he gained more points, and has a car that is sure to return to the track, with minimal repairs required, for the double point event.

Also earning a double win on the 21st, was the #72 Brighton Automotive Pro Stock, driven by Doug Anderson of Trenton.  This win brings him closer to the current leader, #11 Corey Earl of Ameliasburgh, and sets him in 5th place in the division with the double points next up.  The 80 points that separate Anderson and Earl make them the class to watch as 3 other drivers sit between them.  Four drivers are within 80 points of Earl, who knows he has to drive his 2008 Best Appearing  Car hard and fast to stay ahead.

Also hoping to maintain the lead are Stacey Ferguson #1 of Picton, in her Bill’s Johns Comp 4 and Phil Potts, #49 of Frankford, in his Picture This Pure Stock.  Both current point leaders are only ahead by 35 and 55 points respectively, and know that the drivers in their classes will be hungry for the wins as double points are at stake.

The Brighton Automotive presentation of the FAB FOUR Mid Season Championships begins with Time Trials at 5:00p, followed by racing at 7:00pm. In celebration of Canada Day Mystical Distributing will present Fireworks, and the Tim Horton’s Kids Club launches it’s season with the “Be A Racer” Relay Race in the courtyard at 6:30pm.
