Brockville Ontario Speedway Results August 16, 2008

BROCKVILLE - It doesn't seem to matter what kind of race car he's in, when Steve Poirier enters the gates of Brockville Ontario Speedway immediately he becomes a factor.  Poirier scored his second spint car win of the season at the fast three eighths of a mile clay oval taking the 25 lap Empire Super Sprints victory before a near capacity crowd.  The Fireball also won back in May while running with the Southern Ontario Sprint Car Group.

It wasn't easy as Poirier started tenth and was running third with a great view of a furious two car battle for the lead between early frontrunner Michel Parent and local favourite Ricky Wilson.  Wilson delighted the home faithful with some daring inside out moves off turn 4 to take the lead briefly before Parent would take it back.  Poirier then joined in and the three went wheel to wheel, sometimes three wide until Poirier took the lead for good enroute to the victory.  Parent ended up second with Wilson a close third as Canadians grabbed the entire podium on this night.

Danny O Brien has his patented late season charge in full swing in the 358 Modified division.  O Brien scored his fourth feature win of 2008 and second in a row taking the 30 lap main event with relative ease.  The Pocket Rocket was in the top spot by the time the fifth lap was complete and even though points leader Kyle Dingwall was able to close up on a couple of restarts, he had nothing for the Kingston driver, who managed to trim a few points from Dingwall's points lead heading into the final two weeks of points competition.  Todd Stewart, Stephane LaFrance and Adam Moore were third through fifth respectively.

Chris Raabe scored his 14th DIRT Sportsman win of 2008 as he blasted to the front in the early laps and motored home with a convincing 25 lap triumph over Peter Stapper.  Stapper held off a late challenge from Dylan Evoy, who dedicated his effort to his Aunt, that passed away earlier in the week.  Dave Wilgosh and Shane Pecore rounded out the top five.

The 20 lap Street Stock main took 50 minutes to complete, included 10 cautions and two red flags, the last of which came out as the checkered flag fell.  Mark Grier led every lap en route to the win to highlight his comeback season.  Dominic Gauvreau outlasted Nicholas Gauvreau for second with Dana Aikins and Shawn Millan in tow.  Gaetan Amesse and Herb Leach were both uninjured after flipping their cars to bring out the reds.

The Rookies in contract when green to checkered in their 16 lap finale with Bob Ray taking advantage of late problems for then leader Steve Barber for the win.  Josh Kane was a strong second followed by Chris Bakker, Barber and Mike Gaucher.  Wayne Riddell dominated from start to finish in the Vintage Car main event.

Brockville Ontario Speedway returns to action next Saturday night, August 23rd with a full card plus a spectator burn out contest and a special 40 lap Street Stock series event.  The green flag drops at 7pm.
