NASCAR has long considered itself a family. And, like all families, there are bones in the closet.
A few of those bones were rattled this past week as a former member of the family, Mauricia Grant, filed a $250 million dollar suit against the company alleging both racial and sexual harassment. Grant filed her lawsuit Monday. Brian France responded on Saturday afternoon to the general media saying he was "disappointed" to learn of the allegations from the media and not from Ms. Grant's attorney.
Fance also expressed disappointment in the fact Ms. Grant has not followed company procedure concerning the reporting of such actions.
Two Nationwide Series inspectors were subsequently placed on administrative leave. Another official, requesting anonymity, has been quoted in Associated Press stories confirming some of the allegations.
