Mosport road circuit a favorite for Micks... Teams hopes to continue momentum in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series
MT. ALBERT, ONTARIO (June 12, 2008) Although he's primarily an oval track racer, Kerry Micks has proven himself a capable foe when it comes to driving on the road circuits.
And this Sunday Micks plans to be in the thick of things for the third event of the 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, the Dickies 200 presented by Lucas Oil.
"I think everyone will see that the team is positioned to do well this year," said Micks, who won this event in 2006. "We've invested some upgrades and horsepower to both race engines while still maintaining excellent durability in our Beyond Digital Imaging Inc. Ford Fusion."
In this year's opening round at Cayuga Speedway, Micks started the 200-lap race in sixth. Working with a team strategy that saw the Mount Albert racer pit late in the race, Micks came back with fresh tires but out of the top ten, and drove a very strong final 30 laps to take second position.
"We are having a great start to the season with a second-place finish at Cayuga with a very strong car which in another three laps would have been in contention for the win," Micks added. "So now we sit in second in the points and we are going to one of my favorite tracks, the Mosport road course, where we have had success before in past races."
Micks also won two of the series' four road course events in 2007, and mechanical failure kept him away from the podium in the other two events.
Mosport International Raceway is Canada's largest motorsports complex. The 750-acre, multi-track facility is located within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), north of Bowmanville, Ontario.
The Dickies 200 presented by Lucas Oil is part of the Sunoco Ultra 94 Father's Day Doubleheader Weekend at Mosport is scheduled to start Sunday, June 15 at 1:30 p.m.
