BROCKVILLE, ON - It was the perfect time. The first race of a new month – Saturday, July 5th – at Brockville Ontario Speedway was the perfect time for Todd Stewart to visit the winner’s circle. The Bath, Ontario resident followed front row starter Bobby Herrington for the first few circuits of the DIRTcar 358 modified 30 lap feature event, then set sail to earn his first victory of 2008.
It was hardly a walk in the park for the 18 year veteran racer. First, he had to chase-down Herrington who took-off like he was shot out of cannon, out-dragging pole-sitter Andy Lloyd. Then, there were the yellow flags – for a spin by Stephane Lafrance in turn 4 and Mark Hitchcock’s stopped car on the front stretch. The night’s feature race also had a red flag when the #75J of Joe Banks stopped on the back straightaway, with fire coming from under the hood of his car. Under green flag conditions, Stewart had to contend with a hard-charging Mike Adderley of Watertown, New York who had marched from his 10th place starting spot to finish 2nd. Herrington held-on for 3rd.
Heading into action, Stewart was 6th in track points on the strength of 4 top 10 finishes. The victory was also his first behind the wheel of his 2008 TEO Pro Car chassis, having switched from the Bicknell cars he had run for the last several years. In victory lane, Stewart was quick to acknowledge the contributions of his crew chief/car owner Glenn – and the members of his crew, including his nephew Lucas, niece Rebecca and Craig Revelle. The Stewart team also mentioned their sponsor support from Red Line Oil/Re-Max Realty Concepts Real Estate-Penny Blake/B & G Trailer Sales/Anchor Concrete Products/Interprovincial Insulation/Latimer’s Equipment/ Fort Glass/Kwik Kopy Printing/Southeastern Telecommunications/ Northwood 2 Construction and RW Electric.
With their first 2008 win in the books, the pressure to perform is even greater – and Todd Stewart can’t wait to park his #72 DIRTcar 358 modified in victory lane again.
