Brockville Speedway Release - Saturday, July 5th 2008

BROCKVILLE, ON - After having their final show for the month of June washed-out early in the day, Brockville Ontario Speedway came back strong and rockin’, kicking-off a new month by adding a new face into the DIRTcar 358 modified winner’s circle for 2008.  With many family, friends and staff members from 3M, one of the area’s largest employers and Greg Biffle’s 3M sponsored NASCAR Sprint Cup racing simulator on hand Bath, Ontario’s Todd Stewart claimed the checkered flag with his #72 Red Line Oil TEO Pro car in convincing style.

At the drop of the green, 17 year-old Bobby Herrington of Elginburg, Ontario took-off at a torrid pace from his outside front-row starting spot with Stewart right on his tail.  The 2 would battle side-by-side for a number of laps, before Stewart slipped past for good.  A mid-race yellow flag quickly turned into a red, as the 75J of Joe Banks stopped on the backstretch, with flames coming out of the hood.  Kingston’s Mark Hitchcock also went pit-side early.  Of the 20 starters, they were the only 2 who didn’t finish the race.  While Herrington continued his pursuit of Stewart, all eyes were on the #99 of Watertown, New York’s Mike Adderley.  He had come from a 10th place starting spot and worked his way into second while Herrington’s #25 was struggling to put Jeff Ciglich a lap down.  Bryan Rogers had hoped to follow Adderley around Herrington, but the youngster quickly slammed the door.  2006 and 2007 Brockville track champion Danny O’Brien mounted a late race charge powered-by Kyle Dingwall for 5th place at the checkers.

In the street stock feature, Steve Billings came from a 6th place starting spot to claim a win.  Domenic Gauvreau finished 2nd, with Dana Aikins, Denis Gauvreau and 2007 track champion Bill Code completing the top 5.  Gerry Oszcakiewicz took the checkered flag in the rookie feature, with 2007 track champion Josh Kane 2nd, Steve Barber 3rd, Kyle Sopaz - a regular at Brighton Speedway 4th - from a 17th place starting spot and Dwight Feltham was 5th.  2007 champion - and current point leader - Bob Botting won the vintage feature, with a last lap pass of John McNamee.  Cody Mallory, Allan Harju and John Gibson completed the fast 5.
