July 6, 2008- St Eustache, Quebec – Jason Hathaway and the Team 3 Red/ EHR Snap-on Tools Dodge returned to Autodrome St Eustache for the rain date for the KODAK 250 this weekend. With great efforts in practice and qualifying, Hathaway lead laps in the race, but a tight race track challenged the Team toward the end of an exciting and well deserved run for the Team 3 Red / EHR team.
The Team dominated practice at their previous outing at St Eustache in late May. Saturday’s practice once again saw the Team in the top 3 on the speed charts and they were confident for a great qualifying effort. Hathaway’s confidence was evident as he climbed into his race car for qualifying. “The car felt pretty good in practice. I enjoy running this track and I have a lot of laps here. It should be a good night for us.”
Hathaway put down an excellent qualifying effort placing his #3 Snap-on Tools Dodge in the 5th starting spot on the grid of 24 cars. In the race Hathaway had a great initial start and settled into a rhythm with the lead pack. A freight train of cars pushed Hathaway back to 8th in the running order just before the 100 lap mark. Under the tutelage of Pit Coach George Sekanina the Team brought the car in for right side tires and fuel and got back out on the track in the 3rd spot. Lap 110 gave Hathaway a chance to challenge for the lead and after some great racing took the lead for the first time this season. Unfortunately, on lap 139 Hathaway thought he had a tire going down and had to back his run down relinquishing the lead.
Hathaway babied his car for a few more laps until the Team brought him down pit road and changed left side tires on this racing machine. Hathaway worked his way back up to the 13th spot, dodging numerous wrecks on the track, where he remained for the conclusion of the 250 lap event.
Jason was positive about the Team’s night. “We had a great race car tonight. The track tightened up pretty quick during the race and that made it hard for me to make the passes I wanted to make later on. This Team did a great job and we were happy to practice and qualify well. We are headed out west in a few weeks and we hope to have a great western swing in our Snap-on Tools Dodge.”
The Team will pack up and head to Vernon, British Columbia and Edmonton, Alberta for the Series’ annual swing to western Canada July 19th and 26th respectively. For more information on the series you can go to www.nascar.ca. The entire 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series schedule is televised on TSN.
