NCATS: Late race mishaps cost Fastline Motorsports at Mosport

BOWMANVILLE, ONTARIO (June 15, 2008) – What had promised to be a great day for Jeff and Jim Lapcevich in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at Mosport International Raceway came be a sudden end as both cars were taken out of contention late in the race Sunday when rain challenged the drivers with 10 laps to go.

“I just put the Tim Hortons Monte Carlo into the tire wall when it started to rain in corner three,” said Fastline team driver Jim Lapcevich. The Hamilton driver started 11th and finished 20th.

The skies darkened and the rain started at lap 41 of the 53 lap race on the Mosport 2.459-mile road circuit.

Fastline teammate Jeff Lapcevich, has won this event in the past, but Sunday’s race proved a disappointing experience. “I guess you can chalk that finish up to the driver’s inability to see,” said Jeff Lapcevich, who started 16th and finished 12th. ”When it started to rain we were running third and I just couldn’t see and went backwards in the final standings.”

J.R. Fitzpatrick won the Dickies 200 presented by Lucas Oil, D.J. Kennington was second and Don Thomson Jr. finished third in the race that had six lead changes between five drivers and two cautions for six laps.

The next event in the 13-race 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will be race four on the third-mile tri-oval of Barrie Speedway Saturday, June 28.
