NCATS: Kennington on the Podium at Mosport Speedway

August 10, 2008.  DJ Kennington and the Castrol Dodge team once again showed their speed and their late race savvy scoring a podium finish in round number eight of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series schedule at Mosport Speedway.

As usual Kennington’s Castrol Dodge was among the quickest cars during the practice sessions.  Also normal was the car displaying tight handling characteristics.  The team decided to make some radical adjustments.  “We’ve tried the little things so we threw something crazy at it to see if that would help” said the driver.

Rain would postpone the event and wash out qualifying so the Castrol Dodge would line up third on the grid according to owner points.  The start of the 200 lap event went smoothly but once again a tight race car had Kennington fighting for position.  “We tried a bunch of different things and it did make the car better, but we’re still struggling with this car a bit” said Kennington.

The Castrol Dodge would drop several positions through the first half of the race as DJ battled to stay up front.  Following the scheduled stop for tires and fuel along with some handling adjustments Kennington as he’s done all season long fought back to the finish.  “Just like we’ve done all season, this Castrol team keeps digging” added Kennington.

As the field bunched up during several late race caution periods Kennington would do his best to try and gain positions on the restart.  “By the end we used up the tires, the brakes and probably the motor too” said Kennington.  The team will gladly spend the coming days working on the car after another podium finish.  “It was a good points day for the Castrol Dodge team.  It’s great for Castrol and NPP, Dodge and everybody that helps us out.  Dave Wight and the guys, my dad everybody who does a great job every week to get us here” said the appreciative driver.

For seven consecutive races DJ Kennington has finished in the top-five and sits third in the overall championship standings.

The NASCAR Canadian Tire series heads back to Quebec for round number nine.   The historic Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres is the setting on Sunday August 17th.  The 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire series will consist of thirteen events on ovals, road courses and temporary street circuits from coast to coast.  Each race will be broadcast on TSN.  More information can be found by logging onto www.djkennington.com and www.nascar.ca
