The American Le Mans Series (ALMS) features internationally renowned teams, drivers and manufacturers, competing in four distinct classes of competition within one race. Many of the world's top marques are involved with the Series, including Acura, Aston Martin, Audi, Corvette, Ferrari, Mazda, Panoz and Porsche.
Behind the wheel of these machines are the finest road course racers in the world such as 2007 Mosport co-champions Romain Dumas and Timo Bernhard of Penske Racing's Porsche RS Spyder prototype team, Audi R10 TDI pilot Emanuelle Pirro and Patrón Highcroft Acura racer David Brabham. Joining these accomplished drivers are open-wheel veterans Scott Sharp, Simon Pagenaud and former Indy 500 winner Gil de Ferran. Toronto's Tony Burgess will carry Canada's colours when he co-drives the Autocon Motorsports entry.
In addition to the American Le Mans Series, six exciting open wheel and sports car and GT championships will take to the track at Mosport featuring many established and up-and-coming Canadian and International drivers.
The SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge returns to Mosport for the 18th time (most in Series history) with races in both the GT and Touring classes. Among the racers set to compete at Mosport is Montreal's Kuno Wittmer, the current leader in the Touring Car points chase.
The Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear and the Formula 2000 Championship are highly competitive, U.S.-based open-wheel series that feature rising young Canadian stars such as Taylor Hacquard (Mazda) and Kyle Marcelli (F2000). The IMSA Challenge by Michelin featuring Porsche 911 GT3 cars and the sportscar prototypes of the IMSA Lites series round out the weekend schedule.
In addition to the great racing on-track, the Mobil 1 Grand Prix of Mosport features lots of fun things away from the track for fans to see and do as well, such as Tech Talks, Driver Chats and autograph session with American Le Mans Series drivers and teams and lots of vendors selling authentic race-related merchandise. The American Le Mans Series race will also feature its famous Open Grid Walk on race day, which allows spectators to mix with teams and drivers on track minutes before the green flag drops. This feature of ALMS racing is unique amongst top-level racing series and gives fans an up-close, interactive experience.
