SOUTH BUXTON ‑ Saturday's seventh postponement of the 2008 season has forced yet another shuffle of specialty nights and sponsors at South Buxton Raceway.
This coming Saturday will be especially busy with two official sponsors – Country 92.9 FM/630 AM CFCO and Clarke Drainage Contractors. Inc. of Blenheim – sharing the bill. The Country 92.9 Night At The Races event has already been postponed twice by rain – June 21 and July 19.
The feature winner in the Castrol UMP Late Models will receive a special trophy from Country 92.9 FM/630 AM CFCO while the Country Cruisers will be on hand for prize giveaways. Fans can win passes to Saturday's racing action all this week on Country 92.9 FM/630 AM CFCO.
Clarke Drainage's Official Sponsorship night is rescheduled for this week after Saturday's rainout. Kids Night, which was also victimized by the storm, will also be on this Saturday's menu.
Country View Golf Course and Kirk Hooker's family – his wife Dianne, daughter Taylor-Maeand son Jake – will present the Country View Cup and an additional $100 to the winner of the Schinkels Gourmet Meats UMP Modified feature race.
The Garage Restaurant Comp 4s will have their special feature race, with additional money going to the top three finishers.
McDonald's Restaurants in Chatham and Wallaceburg, along with Thompsons (Blenheim) will be the co-sponsors for this Saturday's action, after being postponed a second time this season this past weekend.
The Rick Haskell Memorial Race, which was rained out Saturday, will now be a part of the August 23 show, which will be sponsored by Simpson's Fence. It will also be the third attempt at hosting Simpson's Fence Night, which was postponed June 28 and July 12.
The 2008 season champions will be crowned on Teksavvy Solutions Night, Saturday, Aug. 30. Saturday's cancellation was the fifth in the last eight race nights and seventh in 15 dates in the 2008 season. South Buxton has only been able to run three dates – July 5, July 26 and August 2 – since the official start of summer.
Meanwhile, the winner's purse for the fourth annual Castrol Canadian UMP Late Model Shootout, scheduled for Sept. 27, has been set at $6,000US. South Buxton Raceway is expected a 40-car field for its premier event of the season, with race teams coming from across Ontario and several Great Lakes states.
South Buxton will also host the first UMP Modified Canadian Fall Blowout, with the winner taking home a $2,500US prize. The total purse for the twinbill will top $30,000US.
