Has Fernando Alonso officially entered Loony-ville? Or is he just so arrogant that he doesn't realize how foolish he looks? (rhetorical question).After two races as an 'also-ran' with Renault, he's apparently decided – all by himself – that he would like to drive for Ferrari next year.
"I always try to be in the best car. I'm at Renault now because I wanted to go back to winning, like in 2005 and 2006. If not this year, then next year. But I have an option to leave so I can still be in the best possible car, and it is clear that Ferrari's is one of the best."
Hmmm... doesn't Ferrari already have a #1 driver... CURRENT WORLD CHAMPION Kimi Raikkonen? Don’t they already have a #2 driver (Massa), who is willing to play a support role for the team leader?
Last year, Alonso made it perfectly clear that he's a prima dona who doesn't play well with others. He couldn’t take having a strong teammate at McLaren. And Ferrari is supposed to accept him at a partner to Raikkonen? Or is the delusional Fernando assuming Kimi will be shoved into the #2 position if he decides to grace the team with his presence?
Alonso's public comments are insulting to Ferrari’s current line-up. They are a selfish, demoralizing blow to his current team. And they are a blatant attempt to instill dissention within the ranks at Ferrari, further proving why he shouldn't be considered for the job.
Michael Schumacher was a great driver. But his legend is so much more impressive because he worked with others to pull Ferrari out of oblivion and build it into a dominant force.
Alonso would go a long way to repairing his tarnished reputation if he would stop talking, cease the childish games, and work with his fellow employees at Renault to get back in the game.
