TSN Alert: New-look IndyCar Series Season Gets Underway on TSN and TSN HD, Saturday

TSN ushers in a new chapter in open-wheel racing in 2008 with coverage of the entire 19-race IndyCar Series season.  The schedule gets underway on Saturday, March 29 at 8 p.m. ET with live coverage on TSN and TSN HD of the Miami Indy 300 from Florida's Homestead-Miami Speedway.  Prior to the race, TSN will air the one-hour 2008 IndyCar Series Season Preview at 7 p.m. ET.

The Florida race marks the first IndyCar Series event since the Indy Racing League absorbed the Champ Car World Series earlier this year.

Three races from the former Champ Car World Series have been added to the 2008 IndyCar Series schedule: the Grand Prix of Long Beach, the Edmonton Grand Prix – the lone Canadian stop on the circuit in 2008 – and Surfers Paradise.  The crown jewel of the series – the Indianapolis 500 – airs live on TSN and TSN HD on May 25 at 12 noon ET (see below for IndyCar Series race and broadcast schedule).

The new IndyCar Series season brings with it new features to the broadcasts.  For the first time, every camera will be High Definition, including in-car and onboard cameras as well as cameras in the pits.  The new High Definition onboard cameras will provide rotating 360-degree views of the track.

Canadian Scott Goodyear, a former CART and IndyCar Series driver who has been involved in racing for more than two decades, will once again provide analysis for all IndyCar Series broadcasts.  Goodyear is best remembered for the closest-ever finish in Indianapolis 500 history when he finished second by just .043 seconds to Al Unser Jr. in 1992.

Several Champ Car World Series drivers and teams have joined the IndyCar Series for the 2008 season.  Three-time Champ Car World Series runner-up Bruno Junqueira of Dale Coyne Racing, two-time runner up Justin Wilson of Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing and 2006 Champ Car Rookie of the Year Will Power from KV Racing Technology are among the drivers new to the IndyCar Series.  The new drivers will compete against IndyCar favourites, such as Danica Patrick and former back-to-back Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves.

TSN's IndyCar Series coverage complements the network's extensive 2008 auto racing broadcast package – the largest ever with a total of 124 races from five different series.
