Cornwall, On – Sunday, May 25, 2008 – Martin Bélanger – A gorgeous night to present 7 features races, the night started with the three feature from last week plus a complete race program on Paul`s Auto Body night. A lot of action happened on the track!
The night started with last week`s feature as Marc Therrien took the early in the second 25-lap modified feature that was supposed to be run last week but Gage Morin quickly passed him to get in front but on lap 4 Morin got too high in backstretch and Mark Hitchcock is now the new leader. A lot of movement in the back when Mitch Jock and Eric Gauvreau got tangled in turn 1 on lap 9 and the first caution came out.
Gauvreau had some heavy damage on the right side of the car. Hitckcock got a good start over Joel Doiron and Clayton Benedict. Hitchcock and Doiron got away from the other cars as the laps went down with Doiron was trying strong to get in front but Hitchcock said no when Mark Smoke stopped in the front stretch on lap 22 and the yellow was out. Hitchcock closed the door on the last three laps to win his first feature of the year over Joel Doiron, Lance Willix, Clayton Benedict and Carey Terrance completed the top 5.
In the 20-lap Pro-Stock feature, Louis Jackson led the first lap when Corey Wheeler and Steve Johnston spun out in turn 3 to bring the first caution. Ghyslain Valade took the top spot on the restart but Jackson was still strong with Gilles Godard now the in mix. Godard was now doing battle with Valade for the first position. A lot of action in this feature! Godard took over the lead over Valade on the eight lap with PJ Peters now in third.
Valade was trying to close the gap when Ricky Thompson brought the caution out on lap 17. Godard kept his spot to win the feature race with a lot of action for the other spots of the top 5 with Ghyslain Valade finishing second, PJ Peters third, Aubin fourth and Jackson completing the top 5. Louie Jackson, George Renaud and Joey Ladouceur had won the qualifiers.
Marc Lalonde and Curtis McPhee led the 14-car field of last week`s 15-lap Semi-Pro feature race as McPhee took the lead over Lalonde with Eric Varin in third. Both McPhee and Lalonde got a good lead over the field after 5 laps. Lalonde took the over lead over McPhee when McPhee had problems but Lalonde tried to get around of around of a lap car and hit the frontstrech wall and damaged his front wheel and Eric Varin was now the new leader.
Varin had a good start over Jeremy Levac as the two swapped the lead over a few laps but Varin managed to get back in front and get a sizeable lead over Levac and Derek Cryderman. Varin led the final laps to win his first feature of the year over Jeremy Levac and Derek Cryderman completed the top 3. Lalonde and McPhee were the winners in the qualifications.
Roy Delormier and Clement Therrien led the 21-car field for the 30-lap modified feature race as Roy Delormier led the first lap when a multi-car tangle in turn 2 and caution went out. Clement Therrien outraced Delormier with also John Lazore taking the second spot when another accident occurred in turn 3 & 4 and the field had to slow down again on lap 3.
Therrien was still the leader but John Lazore made a clean pass from the outside on lap 5 to take the lead. Lazore built a good gap over Therrien after ten laps in. John Lazore was now into traffic and gained more ground on the field as he came for halfway. In the back, Terrance used traffic to pass Delormier for third but Kyle Jacobs was really strong as he passed Terrance and Clement Therrien within two laps to gain the second spot.
Terrance was also able to pass Therrien as Delormier completed the top 5. Jacobs and Terrance were getting close to Lazore with 5 to go as Jacobs was able to pass Lazore but Terrance was coming on strong and he passed Jacobs with a good move and was able to win the feature over Kyle Jacobs, Joel Doiron, Clement Therrien and Roy Delormier completed the top 5. Mark Hitchcock, Laurent Ladouceur and Roy Delormier won the modifieds heats.
Stéphane Lebrun was the leader of the 20-lap Pro-Stock feature race with Ricky Thompson in second with many cars swapping positions in the back of the field with four cars battling for the position 4 to 7. The first ten laps went on quickly with Lebrun first followed closely with Thompson and Ghyslain Valade in the top 3 when Louie Jackson had problems on lap 11 and brought the first yellow out.
Thompson is able to power by Lebrun on the restart with Valade getting into the mix and got together with Thompson was Lebrun was back in the lead with Valade having problems and brought a second caution on lap 12. Lebrun was still first with Joey Ladouceur getting a good start and was now chasing Lebrun passed him on lap 14 to become the new leader with Lebrun having problems and the yellow is out again with 4 laps to go. Ladouceur got a jump on the green flag with Bruno Cyr now in second followed by Rock Aubin. Ladouceur won the feature followed by Bruno Cyr and Rock Aubin completed the top 3. Ladouceur, Valade and Aubin are the winners in the qualifying heats.
In the 15-lap Semi-Pro feature, Jeremy Levac led the first lap when an accident occurred in the turn 2 and the yellow was out. Levac led on the restart but Steve Harrigan passed him to take the lead with Robert Delormier in third but Marc Lalonde used the inside lane to gain the third spot and is challenging Levac for second and used the outside lane to get the second spot with Kevin Jodoin out powering both Lalonde and Levac to take the top spot. Lalonde made a good move on Herrigan to take the second spot. Jodoin led the final laps to win the feature race over Marc Lalonde, Derek Cryderman finished third. Jeremy Levac, Derek Cryderman and Marc Lalonde had won the qualifiers
Mike Gaucher is the early leader in the 12-lap feature race with Marc Usereau following him closely but Pierre Robidoux was charging hard and grabbed the lead on the third lap when the caution came out on the third lap. Robidoux got a good start over Usereau with Jean-Marc Larose in third. Robidoux got away as Gerry ‘O’ was now in third. Bob Ray brought the second caution on lap 9. Robidoux was strong again on the restart and led the last laps to win the feature race over Usereau and Gerry O completed the top 3. Kevin Dejong and Robidoux were the winners in the heats.
A great night loaded with action as the last feature finished at 10:30pm and a total of 18 races were done in that small amount of time.
