ACT: Série ACT Castrol 2008 Stock Car Racing Schedule Announced

WATERBURY, VT – The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) stock car racing organization has announced a nine-race schedule for the 2008 Série ACT Castrol in Québec and Ontario.

Launched under the name “Série Nationale Castrol” in 2005, the short track Late Model tour took ACT sanction in 2007 and enjoyed a very successful year.

“We are very excited to return to Canada in 2008 to support the race teams that have continually supported ACT throughout the years,” said ACT President Tom Curley. “This past season was proof that short track racing is doing very well in the region.”

The 2008 Série ACT Castrol season begins and ends at the fan-friendly 4/10-mile Autodrome St-Eustache, just minutes from Montréal. A 100-lap event on Sunday, May 18 will open the season, while the 14th Annual St-Eustache 300 will draw the year to a close on Sunday, September 21. A 200-lap event, which will offer a bonus purse for U.S. competitors, will take place on Saturday, July 26.

Autodrome Montmagny, a 3/8-mile, high-banked oval, will hold a 100-lap event on Saturday, May 31. A long-distance, 250-lap race, which also offers a U.S. bonus, will be held Saturday, August 23. The 1/3-mile, progressively banked Autodrome Chaudière in Vallée-Jonction, QC will also host the Série ACT Castrol twice, with a 100-lap event on Saturday, June 14, and a 150-lap contest on Saturday, August 16.

Autodrome St-Félicien, a 1/2-mile, semi-banked tri-oval, returns to the schedule for the first time in over two years on Saturday, July 5, with a 150-lap event. Capital City Speedway in Ottawa will host a Série ACT Castrol event for the second consecutive season with a 100-lap race on Saturday, August 9.

Three dates have been reserved for special “non-points” events on the Série ACT Castrol schedule for 2008, beginning with the Summer Sizzler 200 at Ontario’s Kawartha Speedway on Sunday, July 13. The Sizzler will be part of the ACT Late Model Tour Championship schedule. Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine will hold the biggest “open competition” event for Late Models in North America on Sunday, July 20, with the $25,000-to-win TD Banknorth 250.

Autodrome Chaudière will see ten Série ACT Castrol drivers in action on Saturday, September 6, as they go head-to-head with the top ten ACT Late Model Tour drivers in the first-ever “ACT Showdown at Chaudière,” a 200-lap all star invitational event paying $5,000 to the winner and $1,000 to the last-place finisher.

Patrick Laperle of St-Denis-sur-Richelieu, QC won the 2007 Série ACT Castrol Championship, narrowly defeating Sylvain Lacombe of Terrebonne, QC, the 2005 Champion. For more information on the Série ACT Castrol, visit www.laserieactcastrol.com or call (802) 244-6963.
