NASCAR: Scott Steckly Tests with GEM and serves as a VIP at Talladega

Milverton, ON, Monday October 20, 2008: Scott Steckly took advantage of a great opportunity last week as he was invited to the Statesville, North Carolina headquarters of Gillette Evernham Motorsports. “I got a call from Scott McDougal at GEM a couple of weeks ago asking if I would be available to test with them in a Camping World East Series car,” said Steckly. “There was no question about it, so we firmed up the details and headed to the GEM race shop last week.”

Scott Steckly, the 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champion and his championship winning crew chief Greg Gibson arrived in North Carolina on Tuesday. The GEM team got Steckly fitted in the driver seat and made sure everything was ready to go for the test session at Motor Mile Speedway in Virginia on Wednesday. “It was a great experience,” said Steckly. “One I won’t soon forget. We put a lot of laps on the car and made a few changes and overall everyone was very satisfied with the times we posted.” Motor Mile is a 1/2 mile banked oval very much like Riverside Speedway that the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series cars race on each year.

Steckly and Gibson are hoping that this test will lead into a ride for the Toyota All-Star Showdown that takes place in Irwindale, CA in January. Steckly has earned a guaranteed starting spot in the event as the 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Champion along with the winners in seven other NASCAR Series. “We don’t have anything definite for that event yet and we will only compete if a good ride is available,” said Steckly.

Steckly was also invited to the recent NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Talladega. He was introduced as the Canadian NASCAR Champion and was on stage with the dignitaries for driver introductions. “It has just been an amazing few weeks,” stated Steckly.

Next up for Scott Steckly and his 22 Racing Team is the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series National Awards Banquet this Saturday October 25th at the Markham Hilton. Steckly will be crowned the 2008 Champion on this night and receive all the accolades accorded the Champion.
