NASCAR Canadian Tire Series: Steckly Notches Fourth Win This Season

Barrie, ON, Sunday September 7, 2008:   After two not so great oval track finishes Steckly and his No. 22 Tow Truck in a Box/Erb Group Dodge Avenger team showed their championship contending form  to take the win on Saturday night at Barrie Speedway.  The Pizza Pizza 300 was event number eleven in the thirteen race NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Championship.

Steckly was as usual at the top of the speed charts in practice as they brought the same set up back to Barrie as they won with here earlier in the year.  Qualifying would see them post the fourth quickest time, lining them up second on the outside row for the main event.

300 laps at Barrie Speedway is an effort in patience, luck and staying out of trouble.  Steckly would do just that in winning his fourth event this season and his fifth in the last twelve dating back to the season ending event of 2007 at Kawartha.

After starting in fourth, Steckly moved into third on lap 40 and then took the Tow Truck in a Box Dodge into the lead on lap 112.  On a lap 130 caution, Steckly would bring his car to the attention of his crew for left side tires.  The next caution on lap 160 would see him bring the car back down pit road for right side tires and fuel.  Quick work by his crew again had him back out on the track in fifth spot.  Steckly just steadily picked off his competitors and on lap 247 he would take the lead for the final time.

Several late race cautions would see several drivers line up on the outside of him but none were successful in challenging for the lead.  After the race Steckly had this to say, “After two bad oval track finishes we wanted to come back here and challenge for the win.  My team did great work as usual with terrific pit stops to give us good track position.  It was a little rough out there at times but that is just short track racing at Barrie.”

Finish:  1. Scott Steckly  2.  Don Thomson Jr.  3. Kerry Micks  4. John Gaunt  5.  Mark Dilley
