ADRL Appoints Ian Tocher New VP of Communications

(Note: Prior to moving to Atlanta (from Toronto) Ian Tocher was the first-ever Assistant Editor of Inside Track Motorsport News, back in 1997 (after we all quit PRN). Congratulations and good luck to Ian on his new appointment! ... g.m.)

O'FALLON, MO (Jan. 15, 2008) The Flowmaster American Drag Racing League (ADRL) presented by the National Guard today announced today that Ian Tocher has been named its new vice president of communications.

"Over the past several years I've watched the ADRL explode in popularity," Tocher said. "I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to join a team that shares not only my passion for drag racing, but also sees a real need to deliver drag racing to a younger and more diverse audience."

Tocher will work closely with ADRL President Kenny Nowling and his staff to maximize the O'Fallon, Mo-based sanctioning body's profile in print, radio, television and online media outlets. He also will facilitate the needs of media representatives at each of the series' nine scheduled national events this year, continue as editor of Adrenaline, the ADRL's in-house magazine, and spearhead an effort to improve and maintain the company's official Web site, www.ADRL.us.

"As the ADRL continues to grow at such a rapid rate, bringing on additional staff is only natural," Nowling explained. "Ian has played a significant role in the growth of the ADRL over the past few years as a reporter for Drag Racing Online and as the editor of Adrenaline. He brings not only an immense amount of talent and experience, but perhaps more importantly he has the passion, commitment and family values that I'm always looking for when considering bringing in a new member of our team."

Among the new features planned for www.ADRL.us is Agent 660 Notes, an insider column dedicated to providing scoops, rumors and daily coverage of the ADRL and the stars that compete in its four professional categories: Pro Extreme Motorcycle, Extreme 10.5, Pro Nitrous, and the quickest doorslammer class in all of drag racing, Pro Extreme.

"Most people in drag racing know me from my work at DragRacingOnline.com (DRO), where its Agent 1320 Notes is a daily, must-read destination for everyone involved in the sport," Tocher explained. "With DRO's blessing, we've recruited Agent 660 with an identity that reflects the ADRL's racing stage660 feetbetter known as an eighth of a mile."

An award-winning motorsports writer and photographer, Tocher holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto and graduated with honors and a Journalism degree from Centennial College, also in Toronto. After interning at Performance Racing News, in 1997 he became an assistant editor for Inside Track Motorsports News in Toronto. Tocher moved south to Atlanta later that year with his wife, Susan, where for the next six years he was editor of Airline Pilot Careers, a trade magazine for professional pilots. He joined Drag Racing Online as a freelancer in 2000 and wrapped up at DRO as a senior editor.

Tocher will continue to live in Atlanta with his wife and four-year-old son, Robert. He can be reached via e-mail sent to Ian@adrl.us.
