Southern Ontario Sprints Unveil 2008 Schedule

The Southern Ontario Sprints (SOS) today released their 2008 racing schedule. The schedule encompasses 14 events at 5 different speedways as well as the Brodix Tournament of Champions at Knoxville, IA. The series schedule is once again anchored by Brighton Speedway which is hosting 6 events, with South Buxton Speedway hosting 2 shows and of course, Ohsweken Speedway. The series is also returning to Humberstone Speedway after a years absence and for the first time ever, the series will be appearing at "The BOS" Brockville Ontario Speedway.

The 2008 season curtain raiser will once again be at Brighton Speedway on May 10 with the points race concluding at Brighton on Aug 31, the Sunday night of the annual Labour Day Classic. May 31 sees the series' first ever appearance at Brockville Speedway along with a return scheduled for Oct 18. The Oct 18 event will be the final SOS event of the season and will be a non-points show run in conjunction with the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) based out of New York State.

In between, the series returns to the Southwestern end of the province for 2 shows at South Buxton Raceway located south of Chatham. The first South Buxton date is June 28 as part of a Canada Day, double header weekend, run in conjunction with a June 29 show at Humberstone Speedway, The 2nd South Buxton show is also a long weekend affair on Aug 2. As mentioned, the series is pleased to be returning to the rejuvenated Humberstone Speedway June 29, Humberstone runs a bi-weekly sprint series and the SOS is pleased that the track chose to include the SOS in their 2008 plans.

The big off season news to date, has been the announcement of weekly sprint car racing at Ohsweken Speedway. Ohsweken continues to move forward with continued facility improvements in conjunction with a dynamic and aggressive schedule. July 18 will see the SOS return to Ohsweken. The SOS is proud to be included in Ohsweken's exciting future. The SOS will also continue to be a part of the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals Sept 12 and 13, one of the biggest Sprint Car races of the year, not just in Ontario, but anywhere.

The series also returns as one of the sanctioning affiliates for the Brodix Tournament of Champions at the World Famous Knoxville Speedway located in Knoxville Iowa. This is one of the kick-off events for the 2008 Cox Design Southern Iowa SprintWeek that concludes with the Knoxville Nationals on August 9.

With a schedule that involves its fair share of travel, the SOS is also announcing that tow money for all competitors will be increased to $200 for the 3 tracks on the schedule that involve extended travel for the majority of competitors. The 3 tracks are South Buxton, Brighton and Brockville. The SOS fully realizes that the price of fuel seems to be on an upward trajectory with no end in sight we do hope this will somewhat ease the travel burden for competitors that for one reason or other are unable to run the feature event.
