AUSTRALIA - Danny Lasoski continued gearing up for the 2008 Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series season on Thursday night by winning at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway in Australia.
The 2001 World of Outlaws champion started on the pole in the 30-lap preliminary feature with a star-studded field in attendance, including eight other series drivers.
Steve Kinser led the first three laps of the event, with Lasoski charging by him on the high side of the track on the fourth circuit. From there, Lasoski, who won six times in World of Outlaws action in 2007, would open a number of very comfortable, leads enduring a red flag and one yellow. He used strong restarts each time to pull away on his way to the victory.
Schatz, the two-time defending World of Outlaws champion lined up 10th for the event and powered his way to a runner-up finish. Along the way, he had a spirited battle with Jason Sides and also had to work his around Brooke Tatnell, Robbie Farr, Joey Saldana and Jason Meyers, before battling Kinser.
Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion started the event in the second spot and took the initial lead from Lasoski. The native of Bloomington, Indiana would run in the Top-Three for the entire event, to record his fourth podium finish of the International Sprint Car season.
Meyers, who won five times with the World of Outlaws in 2007, battled Saldana and Farr for a good portion of the race and would eventually come home in the fourth spot. The native of Clovis, California was victorious last season at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway.
Saldana, who was victorious last month in New Zealand as part of the International Sprint Car season, started fifth and ran fourth for a number of laps on Thursday night before finishing in the fifth position.
Jason Sides, the 2003 World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year finished eighth on Thursday night in his first start of the International season.
Craig Dollansky, who won earlier this off-season in New Zealand, turned in a very impressive run in his first start at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway in a number of years, as he charged from the 24th starting spot to finish ninth.
Also participating on Thursday night was reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Kerry Madsen, as well as Justin Henderson, Paul McMahan who won twice with the World of Outlaws in 2007 and three time World of Outlaws champion Sammy Swindell.
Lasoski topped the 64 cars that took to the track for time trials, with Kinser second and Saldana third. Sides stopped the clock in the sixth spot, with Henderson eighth, Schatz ninth, Meyers 12th, and Madsen 13th.
Schatz finished second in the first heat race, with Lasoski fourth and Henderson sixth. The second heat race saw Kinser finish fourth. Saldana was third in the third heat, with Sides one spot behind him. The fourth heat race saw Meyers finish second, with Dollansky fifth.
Lasoski topped the first dash to earn the pole position in the preliminary feature, while Kinser topped the second dash to earn the outside front row starting spot. Madsen finished second in the B-Main to earn a spot in the preliminary feature, with Henderson taking the final transfer spot by finishing fourth.
Action resumes at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway on Friday night with the second of three consecutive nights of racing.
The 30th anniversary Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series season begins on February 8, 2008 with the 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park.
