Brockville Ontario Speedway cancels 'Hangover Enduro'
BROCKVILLE, ON - The lack of frost in the ground now, combined with the recent reconfiguration of the quarter-mile at Brockville Ontario Speedway have resulted in the cancellation of the annual Hangover Enduro for this year.

The event was originally scheduled to take place on New Year's Day. Track conditions that had cars sinking into the racing surface put the kibosh on that idea for January 1st. February 3rd was the replacement date on the schedule, however a recent streak of warm weather and the continued settling of the new track surface at the BOS has prompted officials to pull the plug on the event for 2008. Fans can now look forward to May and the start of the regular racing season with many special events planned in a jam packed schedule which will be released in the near future. (From the BOS)

PMRA DRAGS: Janzen returns
ST. CATHARINES, ON - Kasey Janzen is returning to the driver’s seat. The veteran racer and founding Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA) member will get behind the wheel of the KC Motorsports Lumina in 2008.

For 2007, Janzen had fellow PMRA driver Joe Lilienthal of Kenmore, New York drive his car. “This year will about the same as last year,” said the 2006 PMRA co-champion. “Except I’m going to drive.” And other that some engine work, Janzen stated the car and team will be pretty much as last year. Craig Masterson will continue as the team’s crew chief.

St. Thomas Dragway responds to leaded fuel ban
Following up on the situation regarding the continued use of leaded fuel in racing vehicles in Canada, Dave Mathers (owner of St. Thomas Dragway) issued the following press release:

"Environment Canada on December 24, 2007 issued a bulletin under Gasoline Regulations announcing a proposal that the exemption for the use of leaded racing fuel will be dropped at the end of the 2008 season. The ramifications of this decision are dramatic, draconian and catastrophic. Race cars that require leaded racing fuel to operate will be unable to compete.

Older (1974 and older) high performance cars will not be able to operate as their design necessitates leaded fuel for their valve trains. Professional drag racing as we know it today will not be able to continue in 2009. The three National Events that we currently enjoy will have to be dropped resulting in huge economic impacts to local businesses such as hotels and restaurants as well as to the facilities that have invested heavily to host these races.

In the last elections, both federal and provincial, politicians campaigned on platforms of reducing illegal street racing. Canada’s many drag strips allow for a safe and controlled environment to allow these potential street racers to operate. This decision will possibly force the closure of many of these facilities.

The airline industry has been granted a permanent exemption under these regulations thus allowing them to continue using leaded aviation fuel. The racing community uses approximately one percent of the amount of fuel that the airlines use. Almost every other country in the world allows the controlled use of leaded racing fuels. This proposal must be challenged by everyone as soon as possible. We urge everyone reading this to immediately contact their local Member of Parliament and their Member of the Provincial Legislature and express their concerns.
