Inside Track Readers' Choice Awards Voting is Underway!

TORONTO, ON – Starting today, Canadian motorsports fans can register their votes for Canada’s top racers of 2007. Visitors to www.insidetracknews.com will have their say in ‘racer of the year’ and ‘up and coming racer of the year’ categories as part of the sixth annual Inside Track Readers’ Choice Awards, presented by Castrol.

Published 12 times a year, Inside Track Motorsport News is into its second decade as ‘Canada’s Source for Motorsports.’ The Readers’ Choice Awards are a key component of the publication’s core commitment to focus positive attention on this country’s current and future stars.

Visitors to the Inside Track homepage who click on the Readers’ Choice Awards program logo will be redirected to a secure online poll featuring a list of six nominees (each) in 10 categories representing various popular forms of racing in Canada. At the bottom of each category, there is space for a ‘write-in’ vote to accommodate ballots for non-nominated racers.

The categories include Racer of the Year and Up and Coming Racer of the Year awards for Stock Cars, Road Racing and Motorcycles. In addition, Inside Track readers will register Racer of the Year votes for Drag Racing, Rallying and Karting.

They will also have an opportunity to vote for the Canadian Racer of the Year Participating at the Highest Levels of International Competition, as well as to select an Overall Canadian Racer of the Year. The 12th and final poll question will ask them to identify the individual they believe to be Most Deserving of Induction into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame.

“The Inside Track Readers’ Choice Awards, presented by Castrol are back for a sixth year and we’re looking forward to learning who ‘the experts’ – our readers – choose to honour as Canada’s best racers of 2007,” said Inside Track Editor-in-Chief Greg MacPherson. “We are very pleased to have Castrol return as the presenting sponsor of the Awards. I also want to recognize the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame which has supported this program for several years by including individual Readers’ Choice Award winners into their annual gala ceremonies as inductee presenters.”

All voting will be conducted via a controlled balloting procedure at the official Inside Track website (http://www.insidetracknews.com/). The polls will remain open until midnight on Friday, March 14, 2008. The results of the readers’ selections will be announced shortly afterward.

Last year’s Readers’ Choice Award winners (based on their performances in 2006) were: Ron Fellows (Road Racer of the Year, Overall Canadian Racer of the Year, Canadian Racer of the Year Competing at the Highest Levels of International Competition and Most Deserving of Induction in the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame); J.R. Fitzpatrick (Stock Car Racer of the Year); Tyler Brown (Up & Coming Stock Car Racer of the Year); Robert Wickens (Up & Coming Road Racer of the Year); Jordan Szoke (Motorcycle Racer of the Year); Brett McCormick (Up & Coming Motorcycle Racer of the Year); Daniel Mercier (Drag Racer of the Year); Scott Campbell (Kart Racer of the Year); and Antoine L’Estage (Rally Racer of the Year).
