Merger talks either heating up or hitting a roadblock... depending what you read

This story says Tony George is heading to Japan on Saturday to meet with "officials at Twin Ring Motegi about moving their Indy-car race from April 20 to allow the Long Beach Champ-car Grand Prix to be staged that weekend..."

This story, on the other hand, says "The latest merger discussions between Indy Racing League and the rival Champ Car World Series hit a snag over race dates."

We'll see which way it goes. Tracks and series are already issuing press releases praising the deal.

As noted by an earlier poster, there is no mention of merging the GP of Toronto or the race at Mt. Tremblant into the IRL schedule.

A note on the GP of Toronto website says, "Did you know the 2008 Grand Prix of Toronto is carbon-neutral?" Unfortunately, that statement might be bang on. If this plays out the way it appears it's heading, it will be a sad end for what was once one of the major events on Toronto's annual sports and entertainment calendar.
