ASN Canada FIA calls on Mosley to step down

I have to admit that I would have thought it would be a chilly day in 'you know where' before ASN Canada FIA would go against Max Mosley, but it appears the temp has dropped.

Norris McDonald has a piece in today's Toronto Star on the topic.

Here is the text of the letter:

To all ASN Canada FIA Clubs and Members.

The image of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has recently come under scrutiny in the British media. Published details of the personal activities of Mr. Max Mosley, the President of the FIA, have attracted significant unflattering opinions from around the world and brought into question his suitability to retain his position.

We have received a number of queries regarding our position on this matter and wish to assure you that we are very concerned about the events which have resulted in this upsetting and embarrassing situation.

In the near future, the FIA is expected to call an Extraordinary General Assembly, to which ASN Canada FIA, as a member club, will be invited. At this meeting Mr. Mosley will have the opportunity to explain his actions and the possibly illegal invasion of his privacy which brought them to the attention of the public.

Notwithstanding our belief that Mr. Mosley has over the years made a huge contribution to motorsport, particularly in the area of safety, we will not hesitate to convey our position to the FIA should it become clear to us that the interests of motorsport would be best served were he to step down from his position as President of the FIA.
Respectfully,
The Board of Directors
ASN Canada FIA
