Humberstone: Small, Lessard, Sheehan and Pratt capture wins in Humberstone opener

PT. COLBORNE, ON - It was an exciting beginning to the start of the ministock season last night at The New Humberstone Speedway,  between last years champion James Small and newcomer to The New Humberstone Speedway, Garnet Wilson.

Wilson gave Small a run for his money a couple of times through out the 15 lap event. While Small and Wilson fought for the 1st place spot that left 2006's rookie in the ministock division, Carey Gore to battle it out with Len Wiley for the 3rd place spot. Small who came out in the top spot, dedicated his race to Joe Cosco, who had helped him build his 2008 ministock car. Top 5 were James Small, Garnet Wilson, Carey Gore, Len Wiley, and Chris Laskey. (Heat Winners were James Small and Len Wiley)

In the Niagara Auto Sales Pro 4 Truck Division Don Lessard captured the checkered flag in the 15 lap event.  Lessard credited his first feature win of the 2008 season to "many hours working on the track"; Lessard who works for Peters Excavating put many hours into working on the track within the past week. The win didn't come easily for Lessard though who had to maneuver his way around and by 2007's Truck Champion Ed McNamara who finished in 2nd.  A battle for 3rd was also brewing between Doug Banner and Rick Book, a battle the Banner would eventually win. Top 5 were Don Lessard, Ed McNamara, Doug Banner, Rick Book, and Rob Sauder. (Heat Winner was Don Lessard)

Fans of the Brains Tire Repair Streetstock Division can be guaranteed a great race when the green flag drops in this class, and tonight was no different. The sleek and careful driving of Brad Sheehan in the M1 and Shayne Pierce in the 88 fought for the top spot, while Cody McPherson, Rick Beales and Jaren Israel fought a little further back for 3rd place. At one time during the race the top 5 cars were so close together, it really could have been anyone's race. But in the end it was last years Brians Tire Repair Streetstock Champions, proving again he doesn't mess around and he claimed the #1 spot, with the 88 of Shayne Pierce a close 2nd place. Top 5 were Brad Sheehan, Shayne Pierce, Cody McPherson, Rick Beales and Jaren Israel.  (Heat Winners were Jaren Israel, Shayne Pierce and Bill Hogue)

Cosco Haulage sportsman was a caution heavy 25 lap event, With 5 cautions before lap 6 even hit. But after that it was smooth sailing. Early leader the 777 of Tyler McPherson lead for most the race, until Pratt in a very aggressive move on lap 21 sent Tyler to 2nd and allowed him to take over the lead. McPherson not wanted to give up gave his all but in the end it was not enough to chase the P38 down. Paul Gaboury who was involved in a early caution working his way cautiously back up to capture a  3rd place finish. Top 5 were Rob Pratt, Tyler McPherson, Paul Gaboury, Matt Williamson and Greg Panunte. (Heat Winners were Tyler McPherson, Jeff Leggett and Greg Panunte)
