Kawartha and Brighton Speedway Racecars at Northumberland Mall, Cobourg

By Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR

Shoppers at Northumberland Mall (Cobourg, Ontario) will find a little more than they'd bargained for. From Monday, April 14th to Saturday, April 19th a pair of Late Model racecars from Kawartha Speedway will be on display.

The 2008 rides of Norm Mayhew and Bryan Mercer are scheduled to be part of a week-long presentation Kawartha is sharing with Brighton Speedway Park. Fans will not only have the chance to get a close-up look at some hot racing equipment.

They can also pick-up schedules for each track as they get ready for the 2008 season openers. Brighton Speedway's campaign takes the green flag Saturday, May 3rd as Coca-Cola presents the Full Throttle season opener. Admission is just $2.00 per person, with a donation to the area food bank. Kawartha breaks the seal on a new year of action Friday, May 30th as the fan favourite OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Models join the track's 4 regular weekly classes.

Norm Mayhew began the 2007 season driving his own equipment, but had only a limited schedule of action on his agenda due to work commitments and sponsorship concerns. Part way through the season, he was tapped by team owner Kirk Mowat to take over finished 10th in season points, combining the totals for both cars. In 2008, the Cobourg resident - who operates Mayhew Graphics - will be back behind the wheel of his own #60 car and hopes to be a weekly contender in Kawartha's Late Model Wars.

Bryan Mercer has done quite a bit of early season travelling to promote his racing efforts. A Port Hope resident - who works as a service advisor at Quantrill Chevrolet-Cadillac - had his #81 racer at the Canadian Motorsports Expo and joined Mayhew recently at the Fast and Furious Racing Expo in Cobourg. Mercer finished 4th in 2007 points at Kawartha and also earned the Late Model division's most improved driver award. His crew picked-up the dedicated pit crew title for the year.
