NASCAR: Patrick Carpentier Phoenix Preview

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series unloads at Phoenix International Raceway for the first night race of the season this weekend. No. 10 Lifelock Dodge driver Patrick Carpentier will again have the unappealing task of qualifying for the 43-car field solely on time.

The No. 10 will take on a different look for this race. It will be the first race with Lifelock, the nation's leading identity theft prevention service. The Tempe, Ariz. based company will partner with Gillett Evernham Motorsports for eight races this season. The Lifelock Dodge gained three spots in Owner Points after Texas last week. They are 42nd and sit 171 points outside of the top-35. Carpentier is only 39 points away from moving into the 40th position.

DRIVER PATRICK CARPENTIER QUOTES:

ON HAVING LIFELOCK ON THE CAR THIS WEEKEND "I'm very happy to partner with them and especially this weekend.  They signed on for eight races.  Everybody is looking for sponsors and the guys in marketing did a great job and got eight more races and that's pretty good."

ON THE TEAMS PERFORMANCE TO DATE "We're getting better in the race time and that's important.  We need to get those points and with a couple of top-30s, we're getting there. So I'm pretty happy about that.  When you spend so much time qualifying it takes the whole race to get the car to work properly.  The Lifelock crew has done a good job making race morning changes and then getting it dialed in during the race.  We're still in a safe mode as we say.  I'm just trying to be smart and respectful out there. Once we get in the top-35 we will focus more on racing than on qualifying. I can't wait to start racing.  Right now we just need good finishes for the points."

"Running all the laps at Texas and finishing the race was just what the doctor ordered. I'm getting more seat time and I think my communication with the team is getting better every week. We're all very comfortable around each other and I think we showed that today with what we accomplished. Getting into the top-35 is our main goal and we took a big chunk out of that."

HEADING TO A TRACK HE HAS RACED ON BEFORE "I'm thrilled to finally head back to a track I've raced on before. It was a lot of fun at Phoenix last year. I remember how stressed I was for qualifying but it worked out. We had a lot of help from Ken Schrader there. We will keep focused and do our best in qualifying. Once we're in the race we'll be smart and hopefully get a strong finish. Right now anything in the top-25 is good.
